Artist's Comments

Commission for *Sabaku-Sama.

This is my stab at digital painting and airbursh. This took much longer than expected b/c I tried really hard to break my mold. I wanted to move away from perfectionist line-work and shading and into conceptual, painterly, and sketch-like artwork.

I don't know if I succeeded or not. But, I do feel good with the overall results.

As usual, please full-view. It means a lot more to me if those who comment take the time to look at the piece.
Image 50% of original size.
Print will be made available upon payment in full.

Thank you! Hope you like it *Sabaku-Sama!
I used this texture package in the background.

Thank you! It nearly killed me when I was trying to figure out what colors to use. Argh I should probably plan ahead more!

From a closer perspective,it seems you painted it with all the minor to mild brush strokes over a sketchy like picture. You moved away from the professional so you achieved this. Great Picture, even i can't draw like this. You're really good Im impressed!!

You got it! I started with a very rough sketch and kept going with more and more layers until I ended up with this. That's why it took longer than one of my normal pieces which are strict, heavy lines and perfect coloring within them. This was more fun to do, but frustrating at points b/c I really wanted to go back and clean it up more.

I'll give you a tip
If your piece is small enough (A4)

* Scan the line art (before colouring)
* Print a couple of copies
* Go wild with colour on the copies (colour roughly with pencils - Its faster and easier then digital colour planning)
* Pick one coloured copy that you like
* Then colour the original
(traditional or digital media works with both!)

This is my safe style of colouring

Nice details on the clothes and the muscles. Oh, talking about muscles: I think you should have made the abdominals smaller, because I don't think that someone can have such abdominals unless they work out a lot to have them like that.

Your work never ceases to amaze me. :)

Love the new style, though I can understand that breaking away from what's comfortable and usual can be a pain in the arse.

Excellent job on this! :D

:wow: Beautiful job Cooley! Lovely poses, and the coloring and lighting is beautiful...looks like a lot of time and effort, but it paid off :D

Such exquisite detail! I like the rippling of the muscles and the detail of the ornaments on the head and chest of the...Aztec creature. I take it you modeled him after the Aztecs? :?
