When I closed my eyes in prayer late last night while sitting by my bedroom window, the skies were empty. When I had finished my prayer and opened my eyes, the northern lights lay before me! I took it as a sign of God, thanked him, and rushed outside with my camera gear. It was about 34 degrees and I had nothing but my thin pajamas, robe, and slippers on. I set up my tripod, and spent the next hour capturing the aurora borealis.
This was by far my favorite image. It's of a tree in my front yard, lit from below by a floodlight. When I took the image I couldn't see the reds far above me in the sky. Though later when I loaded them onto my computer I was pleasantly surprised by the range of color my camera captured. I used my Nikon D50, shutter speed 30 seconds, f11, ISO 1600.
